About

Are you a web worker?  Are your skills getting rusty?  Yeah?  Mine, too.

It’s time to get down with some refresher disco, baby.  Come on.  You know this tune.

In this process, I’m going to learn better steps in this dance.  You can, too.

After many years in the technology industry, I found myself avoiding positions that required some skills, because my disco was not strong.  Or maybe I let it fade.  Whatever your case may be, let’s just get back out on the dance floor and do this thing.  What do you say?

I’m tired of not feeling competent because I’ve forgotten the complete sequence of the Electric Slide or how closures work in JavaScript or regular expression syntax or the way to add flourishes to the Hustle so the entire crowd calls “woop, woop!”  Let’s fix all this.

Confession: I have a liberal arts background.  I took one class in computer science and flunked it, twice.  Some of this will attempt to cover the basics of object-oriented programming (and try to get the terminology and concepts down cold).  Also, since this is on WordPress.com, there will only be source code posted here.  Use it for whatever you want, but they’re not going to let anything run here.  I’m trying this stuff on my funky little MacBook Pro.  You can use whatever you like, baby.

Here’s what I hope to cover here:

  • JavaScript, including jQuery
  • PHP5
  • MySQL and Postgres
  • Object-oriented programming, generally, including design patterns
  • Ruby
  • Python 3
  • Rails 3
  • HTML5 and CSS3, including animations
  • Design, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash Catalyst/Builder (Adobe CS5)
Am I dancing to a tune a little too fast for my feet?  Time will tell.  Until then, “Woop, woop!”
